FAQs

How do I start working with Stolwood Architects?

Simply get in touch with us (07966519438 / mail@stolwoodarchitects.co.uk) and we will arrange a convenient time to meet with you and discuss your project. Following this meeting, we will provide you with a quotation for the project, divided into 6 work stages.

Where do you cover/work?

We have offices in Shipston-on-Stour and Coventry city centre providing us easy access to Warwickshire, Cotswolds, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. Also nationwide (for the right project).

What sort of projects do you work on?

We have experience of working on the full range of both architectural and landscape projects, from schools, offices, commercial buildings, marinas, caravan parks and residential houses.

Who will I be dealing with?

Emma will be your first point of contact and you will deal with her by phone/email. John is the RIBA architect and you will meet him at the initial consultation – you will always get our personal attention.

What is an RIBA Chartered practice?

RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) is a professional body for architects in the United Kingdom, driving excellence in architecture. John is a chartered member of the RIBA meaning he has spent many years studying accredited university courses and completing exams to become a chartered RIBA member. Stolwood Architects are a chartered RIBA practice which shows potential clients and employees that our business is committed to the highest standards of professionalism, best practice and ethics.

What are the benefits of working with a small architect practice?

You will receive personal attention from Emma and John from start to finish.

What are the work stages involved in a building project?

There are 6 work stage throughout the course of a construction project, we will work with you and guide you through each stage; see our design process.

How do I pay for your Architect services?

We will invoice you on completion of every stage. The cost per stage is clearly outlined in our appointment letter.

How long will the process take?

From start to finish, your construction project (including design and gaining planning approval) on average will take at least a year.

Will I need to apply for planning permission?

Planning permission is not necessary for all projects. We can advise you whether or not planning approval will be required.

What happens once I have planning permission?

Once planning approval is received, a Building Control application is required to ensure the new build meets the current Building Regulations. We can prepare and submit this application for you.

How do I appoint a builder?

We can assist with this by putting the project out to tender where we will receive at least 3 competitive quotes for the work. We can then help advise you on the most appropriate builder for your project so you can appoint them with confidence.

What happens if problems arise during the construction period?

As we are based locally, we can respond quickly to any queries. We will monitor construction and hold regular on site meetings to discuss any potential issues.
